Nectarios Triantis has revealed the two Sunderland players he can’t wait to link up with.

Speaking to the club, the 20-year-old has named the stars who he believes he can ‘learn and grow’ from.

The defender signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats on Wednesday after it was confirmed that the two parties had reached an agreement earlier this month.

Triantis is one of Australia’s most exciting young players and caught plenty of attention as he featured heavily for the Central Coast Mariners last season, winning the 2023 A-League Men Grand Final shortly before his exit was confirmed.

Triantis will join his compatriot Bailey Wright on Wearside, however he has named two other Sunderland players as those he is excited to play with.

“I can’t wait to play with them and learn of everyone else,’ Triantis said.

Danny Batth, [Daniel] Ballard and players like that where I can learn and grow with them.

“I can’t wait and hopefully we can get promoted back to the Premier League.”

Batth and Ballard were two of Sunderland’s best players last season, with the former being named as the club’s Player of the Year.

Alongside the likes of Luke O’Nien and Aji Alese, the duo will continue to make up a very strong defence next season and Triantis will certainly face some tough competition to force his way into the starting line-up.

Will Nectarios Triantis start for Sunderland?

Nectarios Triantis is clearly a very exciting player and could be huge to Sunderland in the future, but he will have to do a lot to force any of their current defenders onto the bench.

The Black Cats’ entire backline were exceptional last season and it was often hard to decide who should get a run in the team, which eventually forced Bailey Wright to join Rotherham United on loan.

Triantis is likely to get his chance in Cup games or if the club (inevitably) suffer an injury and he will have to take his opportunity with the scruff of its neck if he is to catch Tony Mowbray‘s eye.
