Speaking to The Toffee Blues YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti will have had numerous job offers before swapping Everton for Real Madrid.
The Italian made headlines this week by returning to the Spanish capital, swapping Goodison Park for the Santiago Bernabeu, but Campbell says that Madrid weren’t the only team in for him.
What’s been said?
Campbell says Ancelotti had other offers, but he wasn’t willing to leave Everton unless Real Madrid came knocking.
“Listen, I can guarantee you, Real Madrid weren’t the only team after Carlo Ancelotti. I can tell you that for sure, but he wouldn’t do anything unless it was a Real Madrid, and Real Madrid came in, they were in dire straits because Zidane had left and you know, Real Madrid are always decisive, and if that’s the way they move, Everton have to move the same way,” Campbell said.

Not surprising
Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if numerous clubs tried to pry Ancelotti out of Everton.
The Italian is a truly world-class manager, and with so many top teams looking for new gaffers in recent weeks, it’s not a shock to hear Ancelotti had a few offers.
Everton fans have every right to be annoyed at him for leaving them for Real Madrid, but if he did knock back other clubs, it goes to show that he did have a semblance of loyalty towards the Toffees.
Sadly, when Real Madrid come calling, it’s almost impossible to turn them down.
