Speaking to BT Sport, Virgil van Dijk has been discussing his return from injury and his fantastic season for Liverpool.
As every Premier League fan knows, Van Dijk picked up a serious problem back in October 2021, he was clattered by Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby, suffering an ACL injury that cost him nine months of his career.
Van Dijk has made a triumphant return to form this season, but according to the Dutchman and his surgeon, there’s still more to come from the ‘brave’ defender.
Indeed, the centre-back says that it can take two years to get back to feeling absolutely normal after an ACL injury, and that means that he should be back to his best in late October.
What’s been said?
Van Dijk spoke about his recovery.
“Listen, everyone has an opinion. I feel great, but the funny thing is that I can get better, better than I am now. I spoke to my surgeon the other day and he said that after this injury after two years you feel absolutely normal, so that will be around the World Cup time, so hopefully we can do something special,” van Dijk said.

Scary prospect
The idea of Van Dijk being any better than this is frightening, but as we all know, it’s entirely possible.
Yes, he’s been one of the best defenders in England this year, but when he’s at his best, he’s genuinely one of the very best players in the world.
Indeed, he came second in the Ballon d’Or voting the last time he had a full year of being free from injury, and he may well replicate that in 2023 if his surgeon’s prediction is accurate.
