Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has said on Sky Sports (10:04pm, April 16, 2021) that he could have done better against Everton.

Spurs played out a 2-2 draw with Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Friday evening.

Dier, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, started at the back, and although he went close to providing an assist at the start of the second half, he should have done better for the second goal that Everton scored.

The England international could not get close to Seamus Coleman, who picked out Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Dier said on Sky Sports (10:04pm, April 16, 2021), as transcribed by BBC Sport: “I think both goals were disappointing to concede. We need to be doing better in those areas. I can do better with myself on the second.”

Encouraging

Dier did not play badly, but one bad moment cost Tottenham a goal and it is clear that he needs to do better.

It is very encouraging that the Tottenham defender went in front of cameras after the match and admitted his fault.

It shows that the 27-year-old is not scared to admit his mistakes in public and is not hiding.

Failure to win against Everton is another blow to Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the Premier League top four this season.
