Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Everton announced the appointment of Graeme Sharp on to their Board of Directors.
What’s the story?
Well, Everton have decided to make the 61-year-old a non-executive Director, although he will continue to work as the club’s Players’ Life President.
However, Sharp will relinquish all of his other duties at Goodison Park after being named on the Board of Directors.
After hearing the news, Lineker posted the following tweet.
Clearly, Sharp is someone the BBC Match of the Day host thinks very highly of.
Everton’s announcement states that their second-highest goalscorer will utilise his vast footballing knowledge to provide valuable input into the club’s strategy.
Bill Kenwright added that Everton were “determined” to have someone on the Board of Directors who knows what the Toffees are all about, as well as someone with exquisite football knowledge and insight.
What should Graeme Sharp do first at Everton?
Well, seeing as it’s the January transfer window, identifying a clear recruitment strategy would be a good place for Sharp to start.
Of course, he is not solely in charge of decisions like this, but it sounds as if his input will be taken very seriously.
As things stand, it seems as if Everton just sign players at random, depending on who is available.
In fairness, the signings of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson represent an extremely encouraging shift towards snapping up younger talent.
It’s this type of signing that Everton need to make more of, rather than spending big on the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Hopefully, Sharp can have a big say in a successful period for Everton.
