‘I can categorically say’: Michael Owen makes Timo Werner claim about Liverpool

Michael Owen has rubbished a suggestion that he said Timo Werner wasn’t good enough for Liverpool and claimed that the ‘top class’ attacker would be a fine addition for his old club.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with a move for the Leipzig striker in recent months.

In April, Sky Sports reported that the 24-year-old was ‘ready’ to join Jurgen Klopp’s side if they met his £52 million release clause.

But during this financial uncertainty, the Reds were unwilling to spend that amount and now Werner looks set to join Chelsea instead.

Jan Age Fjortoft claimed on Twitter that Owen was among the former players who said the German – who has over 30 goals this season – wasn’t strong enough of a player to represent Liverpool.

But the club’s legendary striker Owen has categorically denied ever saying that, insisting that he’s a big fan of the Germany international.
