Arsenal fans on Twitter are reacting to some good and bad news about Gabriel Martinelli.
The 19-year-old sensation has been left out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Martinelli, who joined Arsenal two years ago, was named in the provisional squad but he has been cut from the Selecao’s plans entirely now.
It isn’t hugely surprising because despite being one of South America’s most exciting teenage players, the youngster only managed seven Premier League starts under Mikel Arteta last season.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to the news on Twitter:
Good and bad news
It’s definitely bad news for Martinelli because representing your country at the Olympics is a massive honour – and would’ve been for him.
But it might work well for Arsenal because with the Games beginning on July 23, Martinelli may have missed the start of next season – and pre-season – had he been selected.
Arteta clearly didn’t fancy him all that much last term, but he may – and should – have much bigger plans for the star next time around and the fact that he’ll be available for pre-season and likely the start of the 2021-22 campaign might set the tone for what could be a much better year in North London.
