Aaron Ramsdale is the man of the moment at Arsenal right now.
On Saturday, the English goalkeeper produced something of a masterclass as Arsenal won 2-0 away to Leicester City.
Ramsdale strung together a series of ridiculous saves to keep out Brendan Rodgers’s side.
The Gunners spent some £150 million during the summer transfer window and a lot of rival fans raised eyebrows over the fact that one-fifth of that total went on the former Sheffield United man.
The 23-year-old had a number of relegations under his belt but so far, it’s actually looking like a bargain.
Ramsdale has been different class for Arsenal this season and there’s no telling what he’ll be worth in a few years, should he continue to develop and impress at this rate.
But the man himself has admitted that he never expected to displace Bernd Leno so early, admitting to talkSPORT that he didn’t think Mikel Arteta would use him until the end of this campaign.
He told talkSPORT: “I didn’t expect to be playing so soon. I believed that if I got in it’d be toward the end of the season.”
Spot on
It was clearly always Arteta’s plan to use Ramsdale for most of the season.
We know this because Leno didn’t do much to deserve being dropped from the first XI in the first place.
Well, he conceded five at Manchester City, but that defeat was a far bigger reflection on Arsenal’s defence on the day than it was him.
But you’ve got to say, Arteta’s judgement has been absolutely spot-on – Ramsdale is proving that every single week.
