Jose Mourinho has told Sky Sports, as posted by Football Daily, that he believes ‘until the last day’ that Tottenham will ‘make it happen’ in their pursuit to sign another striker.

Tottenham played without a number nine during their penalty shoot-out win against Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday night, with Heung-Min Son injured, Harry Kane on the bench and Gareth Bale still battling to full fitness.

Instead, playmaker Erik Lamela, who netted the equalising goal, played alongside winger Steven Bergwijn up top.

But Tottenham fans will surely be boosted by Mourinho’s comments, that the striker they are craving, will walk through their doors before the summer transfer window slams shut.

“The club is making an effort to try to give us [a number nine], which I believe until the last day that we are going to make it happen,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“But we are a different club than others. We have to do it in different ways and that’s what we are trying to do as a club.

“But today [against Chelsea], we don’t have that number nine.”

Tottenham’s biggest problem has been their fixture pile-up and they simply cannot overwork a previously injury-prone, Kane.

Whilst in a few months time, things may look rosy in Mourinho’s garden because he could possibly have Kane, Son, Bale and a new forward available to him, he still has to somehow navigate through this difficult period.

Tottenham have to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, they also want to win a domestic trophy and they cannot afford to fall behind in the Premier League.
