Jose Mourinho told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that Daniel Levy and himself ‘share the same feelings’ in that they aren’t happy with Tottenham’s current situation.
Ahead of Tottenham’s Europa League tie against Wolfsberger, Mourinho told the club’s supporters that his relationship with Levy has been ‘the same since day one’.
Given Tottenham’s slump in form, rumours have been surfacing that if Spurs parts ways with the outspoken Portuguese then Julian Nagelsmann will be their top choice to replace him, as reported by the Telegraph.
Whilst Mourinho wasn’t asked directly about his future, the Tottenham boss was asked to share his thoughts on Levy and his relationship with him.
“My relationship is the same since day one,” said Mourinho. “A relationship of respect and of open communication. Nothing change in relation to that.
“We communicate every day and we respect each other. I believe that we share the feelings that we are not happy with the results.
“But this doesn’t create any contradiction between us because we both feel exactly the same.
“My work is directly with the players, with my staff and all the staff around the first-team – I believe that we all share the same feeling, which is nobody is happy. Nobody is depressed. But everybody believes that we are going to do better and that better things are waiting for us.”
It was a big call from Levy to bring in Mourinho over 12 months ago, with a number of things going against the tough negotiator before he could allow him through the doors.
From Mourinho being an ex-Chelsea manager and saying he would never manage Tottenham to the very popular Mauricio Pochettino getting the boot.
All of that was against him. And perhaps still is.
Some would say that it hasn’t worked out, at this moment in time, but if Mourinho can do what he does best and deliver a trophy then it might just change things.
