Darren Bent has told talkSPORT (01/12/20 at 8:40 am) that he ‘100%’ believes Mikel Arteta is the right man for Arsenal ahead of their showdown with Tottenham on Sunday.

The ex-Spurs striker, who was capped 79 times by the club [transfermarkt], is supporting the Gunners on Sunday, but he did admit, that facing this Tottenham side ‘doesn’t look good’.

Jose Mourinho’s men are currently sitting top of the Premier League table and have picked up points against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Despite some calls for Arteta to be sacked, Bent is backing the former midfielder, as he also shared his thoughts on the North London derby at the weekend.

“It’s never a good time to be playing Spurs,” said Bent. “You know with Arteta. People kind of questioned Arsenal before the United game then they put in a performance and got a result.

“But, this is a different kettle of fish in Tottenham. Full of confidence. Playing well. Got a point against Chelsea. But, still, it just doesn’t look good.

“But I am still 100% behind Arteta. I want to put that out there. People keep asking that you should get rid of Arteta. Absolutely not! You cannot keep chopping and changing managers once a situation goes bad. At some point, you need to stick with the manager – I believe 100% he is the man to get Arsenal out of this slump.”

Top of the league, Champions League winners, unbeaten, the worst side in the division, scoring for fun or cannot score for a toffee.

Whatever form your team is in going into a derby encounter, it all gets chucked out of the window for matches like these and that’s the case on Sunday.

But, saying that, games such as this can make or break a manager and it seems a defeat for Arteta would really increase the percentage of fans that want him out.

However, on the other side, three points in this fixture is perhaps what Arteta need for lift off.
