Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that they are in talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock.
The Arsenal academy product may have been at Newcastle for only six months last season, but he became a fan favourite pretty quickly.
That was helped by the attack-minded midfielder scoring in six consecutive Premier League games and becoming the youngest player to do so.
Now, the Times report that Newcastle are in talks to bring his record-breaking talents back to the North East for the forthcoming campaign.
This news has delighted the Newcastle fans and understandably so because he might just be their marquee signing of the summer.
Under the ownership of Mike Ashley, Newcastle aren’t going to splash the cash or try to lure a number of top talents to their club.
Willock might just be their standout signing and biggest-name purchase of the summer.
That possible scenario suits them because it will mean that they will try to fish a lot longer for his signature, rather than giving up if those at Arsenal become reluctant to let him go.
But it has to be questioned why they wouldn’t because Mikel Arteta made it clear that another linked-away target, Emile Smith Rowe, won’t be going anywhere ‘100%’, as he told Football London.
However, when he spoke about Willock’s future, after Arsenal’s pre-season defeat to Hibernian, he wasn’t so convincing.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Newcastle fans reacting to the Willock rumours:
