Darren Bent admitted on talkSPORT (7:45pm, September 20, 2020) that he was wrong about Everton summer signing James Rodriguez.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker believes that he was wrong to doubt James’s quality following his move to Everton from Spanish and European giant Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Bent, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, has been impressed with how the Colombia international – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – has played for the Toffees in their opening two Premier League games of the season.

Bent said on talkSPORT (7:45pm, September 20, 2020): “Do you know what? I am going to hold my hands up here.

“I was one of the ones that said that he would really struggle, Rodriguez, and Everton fans, I apologise. I said that I thought that he would struggle.

“In the first two games of the season, he has been absolutely superb, and he looks like maybe a bargain of a deal.”

Strong start

James has hit the ground running in the Premier League and has been superb for Everton so far this season.

The 29-year-old was the star of the show as the Toffees got the better of Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and he scored in the Merseyside club’s win against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

The former FC Porto star is a brilliant player who worked with Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and it seems that the Everton boss is getting the best out of him again.
