Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has finally apologised to West Ham United fans on the Footballer’s Football podcast.
Wilson says sorry
Wilson caused controversy at West Ham back in 2017, when he was a Bournemouth player, as he netted a 93rd minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw.
Wilson’s goal had hit his arm, and afterwards the current Newcastle striker was in no mood to apologise for his actions.
Wilson has never been the most popular player at the London Stadium since that day.
But the £20 million striker has now tried to build bridges with the Hammers fan base on a podcast with Michail Antonio.
“I remember having one of those [flukey goals], it was against West Ham. I made a comment afterwards which I’ve been absolutely berated for ever since by the West Ham fans,” he said.
“We were late in the game 3-2 down at home, with Bournemouth, and I think Nathan Ake has headed the ball to the far post.
“I’ve tried to head the ball, but as I have headed it my arm is up as well and it’s skimmed off my arm and into the net.
“There was no VAR at the time and the commentator at the end of the game asked me, what it was and how the goal went in. I said ‘a touch of magic’.
“And all of a sudden ever since it’s crazy, they don’t like me, they hate me. But honestly guys, if you’re listening. I apologise for the comment. I don’t apologise for scoring!”
A frequent scorer

It is easy to see why Wilson may not be the most popular player at West Ham, as his record against them is simply incredible.
He has nine goals in 11 previous appearances against the Hammers, and has only lost to them three times in his career.
While he keeps up that sort of scoring form against them, West Ham supporters are unlikely to listen to his apologies.
Newcastle and West Ham have actually already met once this season, when Wilson scored again, but David Moyes’ men ran out 4-2 winners on this occasion anyway.
They will meet again in February, when it will be interesting to see whether Wilson’s latest apology earns him a better reception.
