Michael Bridge told Sky Sports News (16/08/21 at 1:10 pm) that Japhet Tanganga ‘wasn’t keen’ on leaving Tottenham this summer.

The 22-year-old produced an outstanding performance on Sunday, as Spurs beat Manchester City 1-0 in front of their own supporters.

Even though Tanganga came up against Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling, he did a job on the English attacking duo and was substituted late on with a standing ovation.

Nonetheless, Tottenham fan and Sky reporter, Bridge, touched upon Galatasaray wanting the defender and the club previously thinking of allowing him to leave.

“Fantastic performance by Tanganga,” said Bridge. “Nulfying Jack Grealish. Nulfying Raheem Sterling. It was really some performance.

“Earlier this summer, Galatasaray were heavily linked with him. They wanted him on a season-long loan. Spurs were considering it.

“I am told Tanganga wasn’t keen on going. He wanted to stay and it looks to me he has a great future at Tottenham.”

There’s no doubt that Tanganga should be a regular and he could even argue that he could play on a consistent basis at centre-back.

But given that right-back is an issue for Spurs, if Tanganga can do the business then he can save the club a lot of money.

It will probably allow Fabio Paratici to push Serge Aurier out of the door and Nuno can work with Matt Doherty as the back-up.

Either way, that was some statement performance from Tanganga over the weekend.
