Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Nicolo Zaniolo’s situation amid numerous links to Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s something of an open secret now that Spurs want Zaniolo. Almost every major Italian outlet has covered this story, and some have even reported that personal terms have been agreed on this deal.
However, while Zaniolo may have his eyes on a move to Spurs, the deal between the two clubs still needs sorting, and according to Romano, that may be an issue.
Indeed, the journalist says that Spurs are only willing to do a loan, while Roma want a permanent transfer.
Meanwhile, on the player’s side, Romano says that he’s been told that Zaniolo sees a move to the Premier League as a dream and that he wants to come to England.
Zaniolo wants to come to England
The reporter shared what he knows about this situation.
“Yes, for Zaniolo it’s not an easy situation. Mourinho said that he thinks Zaniolo will stay in the end, but it’s true that he wants to leave. He wants to go, he wants to try a new opportunity and probably a new league. The Premier League would be a dream for Nicolo Zaniolo from what I am told. Conversations are ongoing between Tottenham and Roma, but Tottenham it’s clear they will only proceed with a loan deal with a buy option while Roma want a permanent deal,” Romano said.
Tough deal
If Spurs only want to loan Zaniolo this will be a tough deal to do.
Roma need cash if they’re going to let the attacking midfielder go, and they need it now.
Roma have a very important few months coming up as they chase a place in the Champions League, and the ability to spend in January will be vital in that pursuit.
Spurs may not be able to get this deal done if they’re not willing to cough up the cash.
