Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update about Liverpool’s Marko Grujic, claiming that Sporting have contacted him over a possible move.
Grujic of course spent last season in Portugal, turning out for Porto, but his performances on loan seem to have caught the eye of the Portuguese League champions.
What’s been said?
Castles shared what he’s been hearing about Grujic ahead of his potential exit this summer.
“Porto, as I say, would like to sign him, but they have other priorities, they have to get a striker in and like most clubs they need to raise money to get any deals done. Interestingly there is competing interest in Portugal for Grujic, so Sporting, who took the Portuguese title off of Porto last year. Sporting I am told have contacted Grujic and have sounded him out about a move, and I believe that is something that would appeal to the Serbian midfielder if Porto are unable to do a deal,” Castles said.

Let the bidding war commence
This is great news for Liverpool.
The Reds will want to maximise their profits on Grujic this summer, and with two of Portugal’s biggest teams in for him, a bidding war could be brewing.
The Merseyside club have no real use for Grujic in their team, so selling him for a big fee would be the dream scenario for them, and with Sporting and Porto looking at him, they could squeeze an extra couple of million out of whichever side is willing to pay up.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
