Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of a new manager.
The Magpies sacked Steve Bruce last week and the search for a new gaffer is underway.
The Tyneside club have been linked with plenty of coaches, but one name that has been linked heavily is Erik Ten Hag.
Ten Hag would certainly be an interesting appointment from Newcastle, but Romano is led to believe that this is an unlikely one.
What’s been said?
Romano spoke about Ten Hag’s links to Newcastle.
“We had many rumours around Erik Ten Hag because it is true that he is so appreciated by many clubs. He’s appreciated by Man United’s board, by Newcastle, so many people are around this manager because he’s doing a great job with Ajax. I am told that it is not going to be easy to change his mind, he wants to complete the season as Ajax manager unless something crazy happens. This is what he wants and for Newcastle it will be close to impossible to change his mind as of now in this moment,” Romano said.

Not surprising
Newcastle may be one of the richest clubs in the world right now, but it’s not all that surprising to hear that they may not be able to attract Ten Hag.
The 51-year-old has remained loyal to Ajax for quite some time now, and if he is to leave Amsterdam, it seems logical that he would head to a so-called super club rather than a Newcastle side that are currently in the midst of a relegation battle.
That isn’t to say that Newcastle won’t be able to attract a big-name gaffer, but Ten Hag is a manager who should be holding out for one of the top jobs in Europe.
