Tim Sherwood told Soccer Special on Sky Sports on Tuesday evening that he is ‘sure’ that Ryan Mason will play an ‘attacking’ Tottenham side and a team who is on the ‘front foot’.
Mason will take charge of his first Tottenham game tonight when they take on Southampton in the Premier League.
At the age of, 29, he is the youngest manager in the Premier League and younger than a number of his players.
Sherwood, who managed the ex-midfielder during his days in North London, had nothing but praise for his former player.
“He’s got nothing to lose,” said Sherwood. “No-one is expecting too much.
“Hopefully, for Ryan Mason, Harry Kane is fit enough to take part in that game (League Cup final) because I think their chances rest on Kane being fit, not necessarily Jose Mourinho or Ryan Mason being their manager.
“He’s (Mason) a breath of fresh air. He certainly knows how to play on the front foot. He was that type of player. He was a wonderful footballer. And his career got cut short, sadly.
“I am sure he will play an attacking side and have a go at it. It will be interesting to see how it pans out and I wish him luck.”
If Mason can come out of this with a number of wins to his name, and dare it be said, a League Cup trophy then it will only increase his value.
But he will need his main man – Harry Kane – fit and available after he was forced off last Friday against Everton.
Mason couldn’t have been gifted a better player than Kane, someone who he has played alongside, because he is one of the best players in the world, right now.
