Brazilian legend Cafu has tipped Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to shine at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Spanish outlet AS quote the two-time World Cup winner as saying: ‘Alexander-Arnold is still young and he has a great future ahead of him if he continues on the right path.

‘I predict he will be one of the best right backs in England and on the world stage. I am sure he will be one of the stand-out players at the 2022 World Cup.’

Alexander-Arnold has every chance of doing just that given his form over the last few seasons.

Having been named in Gareth Southgate’s 2018 World Cup squad as an uncapped teenager and with Kieran Trippier ahead of him, the 21-year-old is perhaps a bit more equipped to take the tournament by storm next time around.

Alexander-Arnold – who Spotrac say earns £40,000-a-week at Anfield – has recorded 34 assists in all competitions under Jurgen Klopp since the 2018 World Cup ended.

In that time, he has also become a Champions League winner as well as a Premier League champion.

The Liverpool-born right-back has also now amassed 12 caps for the Three Lions, and should be a shoe-in to start the 2022 World Cup under Southgate.

His directness and superb end-product makes Alexander-Arnold an ideal tournament player. When it comes to knockout football, things can get a little bit cagey at times, so having a player who can unlock defences is vital.

It remains to be seen if Cafu’s prediction comes true, although there are few reasons as to why it wouldn’t.
