Noel Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds (10:03pm, November 2, 2020) that he could not believe that Patrick Bamford failed to take his early chance for Leeds United against Leicester City.
The former Leeds striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, believes that Bamford should have scored for the Whites early on when he was presented with an easy chance.
The former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest striker had a free header on goal from just yards out, but the 27-year-old directed it straight to Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Whelan said about Bamford’s early chance on BBC Radio Leeds (10:03pm, November 2, 2020): “The first one, I am struggling to think how he has actually not scored the goal. It’s a lovely move, he has come into the box, you have to head it to either side of the goalkeeper.”
Big chance
Just seconds after Bamford’s failure to score, Leicester went 1-0 ahead through Harvey Barnes in the second minute.
The Foxes scored three more goals while Leeds found the back of the net once, as Brendan Rodgers’s side won the Premier League match at Elland Road 4-1.
Of course, there was more than enough time for Leeds to come from a goal down to win the match, but there will always remain the feeling that things could have been different had Bamford’s header gone in.
It should also be noted that Leeds failed to cope with the pace and quality of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, so Bamford cannot be blamed for the defeat.
