Paul Merson hilariously told Soccer Special on Sky Sports that he is ‘so glad’ that he didn’t watch Everton’s 5-4 FA Cup win against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Sky pundits were assigned games before the evening got underway, with Merson handed Leicester’s 19:30 pm FA Cup clash with Brighton and Andy Hinchcliffe watching his former side take on Spurs.
When the show was coming to an end at 10:15 pm, Leicester had beaten Brighton, but Tottenham’s FA Cup thriller was heading towards extra-time after Harry Kane’s 84th-minute equaliser.
It meant that Hinchcliffe had to stay behind and move into another studio, with Merson admitting that he was glad he wasn’t assigned the game, as he headed home.
“I can see Merse shaking his head thinking ‘why, why did I not just get a little piece of that in my game, ” said Hinchcliffe
“As I look at my watch now, I am so glad that I had Leicester-Brighton,” replied Merson with laugher in the studio. “Oh, seriously.”
Two managerial powerhouses in Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho delivered one of the games of the season last night.
A lot has been made of Mourinho’s ‘defensive style’ this season, but that was far from defensive from a Tottenham team that went toe-to-toe with their Premier League rivals.
But the Spurs faithful shouldn’t expect too much of that because they have the small task of facing Manchester City at the weekend.
