Rio Ferdinand has urged rumoured Newcastle United target, Donny van de Beek, to leave Manchester United, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Only six Premier League minutes for the Dutch midfielder this season and Ferdinand made it clear that, if he was working for the player, then ‘he wouldn’t be there now’.

Given Van de Beek’s situation at Manchester United, it’s no surprise that his name has been touted with other clubs, including Newcastle United’s.

The new Saudi-led ownership at St James’ Park has no doubt helped those matters and it does seem like a possible logical fit if he does move in January.

Ferdinand didn’t hold any punches when talking about the £35 million player’s situation (BBC Sport) and how he is a ‘humble kid’.

“If I am Donny van de Beek, then I am off,” said Ferdinand. “There’s no talking to me. Don’t chat.

“I love Donny because he is a humble kid. But, I have got to be honest, if I was looking after him, then he wouldn’t be there now. He would have been gone.”

Newcastle need someone with a forward-thinking style to fit into their midfield and someone like Van de Beek would fit in.

A loan deal would suit all parties, the player himself in getting those minutes, Man United in trying to pull back his value that’s diminishing and Newcastle who need more bite and control to their midfield.

But it begs the question as to why Van de Beek isn’t playing for Man United because it’s not like it has been rosy in the garden for the Manchester-based club.

When you can’t get onto the pitch during or after a 5-0 defeat to your biggest rivals, then that says it all.
