‘I am not sure’: Richard Keys gives verdict after fresh Newcastle United takeover development

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has given his take on reported new development at Newcastle United.

According to The Times, there is fresh political resistance to the Saudi Arabia-based consortium to buy Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley.

If the takeover does go through, then Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will own 80% of the Magpies, Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will have a 10% share in the club, and the Reuben brothers – Simon and David – will have a 10% stake as well, according to The Times.

Former Sky Sports news presenter Keys, who now works for beIN SPORTS, has given his take on the current situation at Newcastle, and has referred to media magnet Henry Mauriss’s bid to buy the Magpies, as reported by The Mirror.

Keys said on The Keys & Gray Show: “I thought at the start of the week it might go through, but it hasn’t.

“The exclusivity has lapsed. There is another bid on the table – Henry Mauriss of ClearTV in the US.

“I am not sure anymore whether this deal is going to get done. Mauriss has plenty of money.

“He would be the perfect replacement for a Saudi bid were it be the case that that bid is turned away.”

Patience

Newcastle fans should stay patient, as such deals do take time to go through.

If PIF do take over the Magpies, then the St. James’ Park faithful could see a number of quality players signed in the coming transfer windows, and the team could be challenging for the European places in the coming years.
