Jeff Stelling jokingly questioned if Marcelo Bielsa is ‘still in charge’ of Leeds United, after their U18s shipped ten goals, as he said on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (09/04/22 at 2:05 pm).

The Sky presenter pointed out that Leeds U18s were hammered 10-3 by Liverpool’s U18s yesterday.

During his days in the Elland Road dugout, one thing Bielsa did from the minute he stepped into the club to when he left was entertain all.

On some occasions, it would have been a hard watch if you are a Leeds fan because they went on some horrendous runs, but it came with a lot of seriously good stuff, including promotion.

Nonetheless, this was the cheeky jibe Stelling aimed at Bielsa, who was replaced by Jesse Marsch in Yorkshire.

“Talk about Liverpool,” said Stelling. “The Liverpool U18s have been playing Leeds U18s.

“It finished Liverpool U18s 10-3 Leeds U18s. I am not sure if Bielsa is still in charge of Bielsa’s U18s or not.”

Whilst Marsch lost his first two opening matches, Leeds have since gone unbeaten during the last month, including beating Watford on Saturday.

This has been aided by the fact that Bielsa left the American with a squad of players that were used to the all-action style.

Whilst Marsch doesn’t deploy a man-to-man marking system or is in the opposition face as aggressively as Bielsa wanted his players to be, they are still front foot managers that want their teams to press high and in numbers.

With Leeds being nine points clear of the drop zone now, they should feel it’s enough points on the board to maintain their Premier League status with, at best, one more win needed.
