Ahmed Elmohamady has taken to Twitter to confirm his departure from Aston Villa, with his contract set to expire next month.

The 33-year-old wrote an emotional message to the Villa Park faithful, which he tweeted earlier today.

You can see Elmohamady’s message below.

It’s safe to say that the 87-cap Egypt international has been a fantastic servant to the Villans.

Steve Bruce picked up the versatile Elmohamady for just £1 million back in July 2017, and he’s more than repaid that sum.

In total, the former Sunderland man made 129 appearances for Aston Villa.

In that time, Elmohamady scored four goals and provided 17 assists.

As he mentions in his message, he played his part in helping the Villans get back to where they belong, after some tough times in the Championship.

The £25,000-a-week man will be fondly remembered by the Villa Park faithful, that’s for sure.

What’s next for Elmohamady?

Interestingly, Elmohamady adds that he’s been offered the chance to be a coach at Aston Villa, but says that’s for ‘another day’ – fair enough.

This would suggest to us that he’s thinking of extending his playing career a little longer, before hanging up his boots and going into coaching.

Whatever Elmohamady does next, he will always be fondly remembered by the Aston Villa supporters – just so long as he doesn’t join Birmingham!
