Connor Goldson has told Rangers TV that he is “knackered” after making his return to action for Michael Beale’s side on Tuesday night, having spent the last two months on the sidelines through injury – helping Rangers win 3-2.

Goldson, 30, picked up a hamstring injury during the 7-1 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League on October 12. He has been missing since then, but was back in action at Pittodrie – Beale’s second game. He played the entire match.

Rangers went 1-0 up, Fashion Sakala scoring his second goal in two games. But Duk and Leighton Clarkson – two players Beale praised in his pre-match press conference – both netted spectacular efforts to put Aberdeen 2-1 up.

So, like Celtic on Sunday, the Dons looked as though they were going to get a result – until injury time. Jim Goodwin watched on in despair as Scott Arfield netted two injury-time goals in the 95th and 97th minute to win 3-2.

Goldson gave an immediate injury update after the match to Rangers TV. He admitted he was “knackered” having only trained twice before the match following his two-month injury lay-off. But he knew that it was going to be hard.

“I’m happy,” Goldson said, when asked about being back in the Rangers team. “I’m absolutely knackered, I’ve trained twice. But I wanted to play. I knew that whenever the first game back was, it was going to be hard.

“I knew that I’d have to get that out of the way and hopefully recover now in time for Friday. Just wanted to play as soon as I could. I’m so happy to be back,” Goldson continued, speaking on the Pittodrie pitch after the win.

A real level of commitment showed. Goldson could have easily asked to be on the bench and edge his way back into the side. But Beale spoke after the game stating that he knew Goldson’s body and that he would be okay to play.

Whether he will recover as quickly as his teammates for the trip to Ross County on Friday, remains to be seen. But, the Rangers defender’s return is a huge boost to Beale and the Gers, as they look to make it three wins from three.
