Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has given his take on the future of Emiliano Martinez amid reported interest from Leeds United and Aston Villa, as quoted in Football.London.

Arteta was impressed with the display produced by Martinez during Arsenal’s win against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday evening.

The Arsenal boss has suggested that he rates the Argentine goalkeeper highly, and has admitted that he cannot stop the speculation.

According to The Daily Mail, Leeds are interested in signing Martinez from Arsenal and are willing to sell Kiko Casilla in the summer transfer window.

The Independent has claimed that Villa are planning to make a bid of £10 million for the Argentine.

Arteta told Football.London when asked about Martinez’s situation: “We are in the market but there is a lot of speculation.

“Emi has shown in the last few months what he’s capable to do for this football club, I am convinced he has the level to play for us consistently at that level, he showed that today in a final. I cannot stop the speculation or what people write about us.”

Aston Villa or Leeds United move?

If Bernd Leno stays as the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal next season, then Martinez should at least look into the possibility of leaving the North London outfit, as he is good enough to play regular first-team football for a top Premier League club.

Villa do need a new goalkeeper, as Tom Heaton is still recovering from injury and Pepe Reina has left after his loan spell.

As for Leeds, if Casilla is sold, then the promoted Premier League club will need a senior goalkeeper, and Martinez will get playing time at Elland Road.
