Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has claimed that Leeds will be looking to sign a central midfielder this summer.
The Whites came very close to signing a new midfielder in the 2020 summer window, but Michael Cuisance’s failed medical left them short in the middle of the park.
The lack of depth in the middle is something Hay has clearly noticed, and he was discussing it on his podcast.
“There is a shortage of choice there, I think. We saw in the summer that they came very, very close to signing Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich,” Hay said.
“That was basically done before the medical threw up issues and Leeds backed out. So, that tells you that they did want something else in the centre of midfield.
“I think what Leeds have got to the point of doing now is not jumping on something because another deal has gone wrong.
“The feeling was, look, that hasn’t happened; it’s not the end of the world; we’ve got money we can put towards Raphinha instead for now and we can revisit it.
“I am certain that they will do at the end of this season.”

Hay is one of the most well-connected journalists covering Leeds United, so we have to take what he says seriously here.
Hay says he’s certain that Victor Orta will look at a midfielder this summer, and it will definitely be interesting to watch how that unfolds.
There have been links to Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar as of late, so that may be a potential avenue to explore, but of course, Orta has six months to draw up a list of targets, so anything could happen.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
