Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast live on Sky Sports, that he thinks Jurgen Klopp’s side were fairly treated by VAR at the weekend.

Liverpool gave away a penalty in the last minute against Brighton & Hove Albion, after Andy Robertson was deemed to have kicked the bottom off Danny Welbeck’s foot.

Brighton went on to dispatch the spot kick and claim a draw, with some members of Liverpool’s squad clearly fuming at the decision.

VAR was quickly lambasted by many Reds fans on social media.

However, Carragher does not believe that the fault lies with the technology in this case.

The Liverpool legend actually thought that the penalty was a fair decision, and he has encouraged Robertson to change his pro-active defensive style in future.

“In the VAR world that is a penalty,” Carragher said.

“He just swings that boot at it, with that right-foot. Just leave it. Welbeck is going nowhere.

“You’re not going to get away with that. You would have done before VAR, I’m certain of it. But in that world don’t moan about it after the game, you may have to change the way you play.”

Despite the penalty incident, Liverpool have still come out of the weekend sitting in a strong position in the Premier League table.

The Reds remain in second spot, and are stationed just behind league leaders Tottenham on goal difference.
