Dele Alli stated on his Instagram live that Steven Bergwijn is ‘the most skilful player’ at Tottenham.
The 23-year-old found life tough in his first full season in England’s top-flight last season, but against Wolves over the weekend, he was showcasing those dancing boots to the entertainment of the Spurs fans.
Spurs recorded a 1-0 win as Nuno Espirito Santo returned to familiar ground and walked away with much-needed three points.
During one moment in the match, as Bergwijn was hugging the touchline, his speed, power, quick-thinking, cleverness, close control and natural skill saw him bursting down the left flank and leaving the opposition staring as he powered through like a runaway train.
When Alli was asked on his Instagram live about the ‘most skilful player’ at Spurs, he also claimed that he is just behind his Dutch teammate.
“The most skilful player at Spurs?” said Alli. “It’s Stevie Bergwijn (Eric Dier nods in agreement). I would give it to Stevie. Then I am a close second.”

This is a big season for Bergwijn because if he repeats last season’s performances then many within the club will begin to worry.
One Premier League goal last season simply isn’t good enough for a player of his ball-carrying ability.
But the key thing for the former PSV man is that he has started the new Premier League season in a strong fashion, it’s just now a case of maintaining that form.
