Jamie Carragher admits that he now cannot see Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard leaving Ibrox for some time yet.
Speaking on the Greatest Game podcast, Carragher admitted that when Gerrard first went to Rangers he only envisaged his former teammate staying there for a few years.
However, with Gerrard delivering great success to Rangers this term, his popularity has risen hugely at Ibrox.
And Carragher actually can’t see Gerrard leaving the role now, as he believes Gerrard is enjoying his time in Scotland so much.
“I initially thought that Stevie would go up to Scotland, try and stop 10 in a row, get his league and do three or four years, because he is away from home, and then come back to England and to the Premier League,” he said.
“That’s not something he ever said to me, but how long are you in a job normally?
“I actually think that being no supporters in there maybe has slightly taken the gloss off that title.
“I think, now, that Stevie will have that drive to dominate Scottish football for Rangers in the next few years.
“That’s not something he’s told me but he’ll want those supporters in there for European nights, he’ll want to win the league in front of supporters.
“I think Stevie now looks at this and thinks this could be a five or six year job, as opposed to a two of three year one when he first came in.”
Gerrard is sure to have drawn some admiring glances for the job he has done at Rangers.
Already the Light Blues boss has been touted as a potential candidate to takeover at Tottenham Hotspur, although he has never intimated the a move to Spurs would appeal.
Rangers fans will certainly be hoping Gerrard stays, as he has taken the club forward brilliantly.
Rangers have gone the whole season unbeaten this term, and the signs suggest that they could be set for a period of dominance if Gerrard does remain in charge.
