Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Chris Waddle has shared what he saw Jack Grealish and Gareth Southgate doing after full-time against Germany.
There’s been so much discussion about Southgate and Grealish over the past year or so, with many fans theorising that the England manager isn’t the biggest fan of the Aston Villa captain, but it seems as though he’s now sold on the 25-year-old.
Southgate and Grealish had an embrace after the game on Tuesday, and Waddle picked up on what was happening.
What’s been said?
Waddle was speaking after the game about the post-match celebrations at Wembley.
“Yes they have, and I actually noticed that Gareth Southgate peeled away and was stood in the centre-circle having a laugh with Jack Grealish and he ruffled his hair. It was almost as if he was saying ‘you did it, you did exactly what I asked from you’ and they both had beaming smiles on their faces,” Waddle said.

Great to see
This is fantastic to hear.
It seems as though Southgate fully recognises what Grealish has done for his team, and we can only hope that he rewards that with a start against Ukraine.
The Aston Villa midfielder has proven that he’s capable of being England’s talisman in the biggest of games, and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be the first name on the teamsheet going forward.
Southgate seems to finally be coming round to the fact that Grealish is one of Europe’s best footballers.
