Jamie Carragher has claimed that Jurgen Klopp clinching the Premier League title for Liverpool is ‘monumental’ because he has seemingly had a tougher job than his rivals.

The TV pundit pointed out how Liverpool’s net spend was ‘a hell of a lot less’ compared to his teams, as he made it clear that he includes Tottenham in that talk, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (22/07/20 at 5:30 pm).

When Klopp was appointed at Anfield in 2015 – Arsene Wenger was still at Arsenal, Jose Mourinho would join Manchester United down the line and Mauricio Pochettino was working wonders at Spurs.

Carragher shared how all of that was against Klopp, and out of all those teams, he had the ‘worst’ side to start off with, hence why his work during these past five years has been as good as its been.

“It is a monumental job what he’s done,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “It took four or five years. Liverpool are not a club who can one season have a bad season and then they go and blow £100’s of millions in the transfer market.

“Manchester United could do that. Maybe Chelsea have proven that in the last few years. [For] Liverpool, it has to be gradual.

“The reason why I say it’s a monumental job is because of what he’s up against is great managers in the Premier League – Pep Guardiola, Pochettino, Wenger was here. Jose Mourinho was at Manchester United. They all had the experience. More experience than him in the Premier League.

“Also, they had more money to spend and I actually include Tottenham there in that if you actually look at what Jurgen spent – net spend – he has only spent £80 million in five years, which is unbelievable compared to his rivals.

“So, he comes in with the worst team than any of those clubs and over five years he spends a hell of a lot less and now Champions League winner, World Champions and Premier League winner.”

It has been a tough road for Liverpool in trying to claim their first English league title in 30 years, but it’s going to get even tougher now.

It’s not easy winning back-to-back titles – only Manchester City and Manchester United have done it in recent times.

Plus, Klopp’s men are the ones being chased now and it’s tougher holding onto something than chasing it because everyone will be coming at them.
