Chris Sutton has said BBC Radio 5 Live (7:35pm, March 6, 2023) that he is still confused about the exact position of Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez.
The former Chelsea striker has noted that there was a lot of hype over Nunez in the summer of 2022 when he joined Liverpool.
Erling Haaland was the other big striker signing in the Premier League last summer.
The Norway international striker moved to defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
Sutton has said that he is not sure exactly what Nunez’s best position is.
The BBC Sport pundit made the comments while analysing Liverpool’s 7-0 win against Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
The £140,000-a-week (The Times) striker scored two goals for the Merseyside club, first in the 47th minute and then on 75 minutes.

Chris Sutton on Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez
Sutton said: “Nunez, I think there was a lot of hype about him at the start of the season. I get that.
“There was this Nunez against Erling Harland battle, and he scored in the Community Shield, didn’t he? And everybody was getting excited about it.
“He has missed a lot of chances. Things haven’t panned out for him as he would have expected and as Liverpool fans would have liked.
“I still don’t know what his best position is, whether he is better off the left-hand side or a centre-forward.”
Down the middle
We believe that Liverpool should use Darwin Nunez down the middle but allow him the freedom to move out wide and change positions with Cody Gakpo.
Mohamed Salah is a regular on the right of a front-three, while Gakpo is starting on the left and Nunez down the middle.
And that is how it should be.
Now, while Nunez is more of a number 9 than Salah and Gakpo, the Uruguay international striker has to change positions during a match with his fellow forward players.
And he is doing that.
The striker is very mobile and works hard off the ball.
