Rangers made it through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup by hammering Hamilton Academical 6-0 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

The Gers were coming off the back of a dramatic 3-2 home win over St Johnstone in midweek, and took a 1-0 lead in the first half against Hamilton as Martyn Waghorn scored from the penalty spot after Jon Toral had been fouled.

Rangers then ran riot in the second half, as Joe Garner scored shortly after the break before Jon Toral and Clint Hill struck to make it 4-0.

Striker Garner then completed a hat-trick with two late goals for Rangers, capping off a 6-0 win and a major boost to the club amid recent uncertainty on and off the field.

The win has set up a semi-final clash at Hampden Park with Old Firm rivals Celtic, and many of the Rangers players will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over the Bhoys.

For now though, Rangers will be celebrating a thumping victory, and two of the Gers’ key players have taken to Twitter to comment on the win.

Defender James Tavernier and midfielder Emerson Hyndman both celebrated a strong team performance and a passage into the last four of the competition.

Both players also congratulated Toral on his first Rangers goal and striker Garner on his hat-trick, with the duo playing key roles in the victory.
