Birmingham City have been competing with Aston Villa for the signature of ex-Chelsea defender John Terry.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has told the Express and Star that he has heard John Terry wants to sign for Birmingham.

Swansea had been tracking Terry for much of the summer so far, but they have faced competition from Birmingham and Aston Villa for the Chelsea legend’s signature.

Terry is currently a free agent, after his contract at Chelsea expired at the end of last season.

It was expected that the 36-year-old would take a Premier League move, but it seems that he could be attracted to join up with Harry Redknapp at Birmingham.

“I don’t know what he wants out of his move and I’ve heard he is keen on going to Birmingham,” said Jenkins. “But Paul has had a conversation with John and his agent to see how things stand and we are waiting to hear back from them.”

If Terry does sign for Birmingham it will be a major boost for Redknapp’s men, and they would also get one over on rivals Villa.

Steve Bruce is known to have wanted to add Terry, and made the experienced defender one of his top targets, but it seems Villa may miss out.

Terry’s arrival at Birmingham would be a major statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.

The Blues only narrowly avoided relegation last time out, but they are keen to show a big improvement next term.
