Don Hutchison thinks Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Gareth Bale, can do what Christian Eriksen did at Brentford, at the Welshman’s next club, as he told ESPN.
After helping Wales qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Bale needs minutes under his belt next season ahead of the winter tournament in November.
This will possibly mean signing a short-term contract for the 32-year-old, with his Real Madrid contract expiring in June, but where will he go?
Tottenham have been one of the clubs mentioned to sign him up this summer, but so have Championship side, Cardiff City, the hometown of Bale.
Either way, Hutchison made it clear that Bale can’t go to the Championship because his body simply won’t be able to cope with its heavy demands.
“He has got to a stage in his career where his body is starting to let him down,” said Hutchison. “He can’t train like he did five or ten years ago.
“It’s unfortunate Gareth Bale can’t train everyday – during the nine years he has been at Real Madrid, he has been an unbelievable player for them.
“Don’t go into the Championship. I went into the Championship when I was 25 and I loved it because it was Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday and Tuesday. It was relentless.
“His body at 32 is not built for the Championship anymore. Benzema’s age is like a 32-year-old, whereas, Bale has the body, knees and ankle of a 35-year-old.”
“If you think what Christian Eriksen has done for Brentford. I can see a scenario like that.”
ERIKSEN HELPED LIFT BRENTFORD
When Eriksen joined Brentford, they were on a bit of a slippery slope and they needed a bit more bite to their game.
Along came Eriksen, after his return to football, and lifted the newly-promoted side to safety.
From the ten games the Denmark international started, the Bees only lost two of those matches, which just proves how much of an impact he had.
Could Bale do the same? He wouldn’t be able to do that at Spurs because there are better players than him already at the club.
But joining a team lower down the Premier League table, or even joining Cardiff, would certainly lift the club to much higher heights.
