Former Everton captain Don Hutchison has urged his old side to complete a deal for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun after reports claimed the Toffees had agreed a deal with the Turkish champions.

The Guardian report that the 26-year-old has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Goodison Park outfit, after the two sides settled on a fee worth £25million for the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

Tosun, who is set to enter the final 18 months of his contract at the Vodafone Arena, has been in exquisite form for Besiktas this season with 13 goals in 23 games including strikes against Monaco, Porto and Galatasaray.

Hutchison, who played for Everton for two years between 1998 and 2000, claimed on Twitter that he had “recommended” Tosun to the managers he speaks to and stated his desire to see the 25-time Turkey international move to Merseyside.

Everton have severely lacked a proven marksman since the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the summer, with Dom Calvert-Lewin still learning the ropes and Oumar Niasse hardly seen as the Belgian’s full-time replacement.

Wayne Rooney’s form from deep has been too good to play him up front, so the signing of powerful striker Tosun will surely give Everton the missing ingredient they have been crying out for this season.
