Everton completed the signing of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas last week.
Former Everton captain Don Hutchison has told the club’s official website that Toffees fans will “absolutely love” new signing Cenk Tosun, and has boldly backed him to be a success at Goodison Park.
Everton completed the £27million signing of 26-year-old Tosun from Turkish champions Besiktas last week, penning the powerhouse centre-forward to a four-and-a-half-year deal at Goodison Park.
Turkey international Tosun caught the Toffees’ eye after scoring 14 goals in all competitions this season from just 24 outings, including a Champions League brace against Monaco in October.
Former Toffees’ number 10 Hutchison claims that Tosun will be loved by the Goodison Park faithful, and even compared one of his goals for Besiktas in the Champions League earlier this season to Paul Gascoigne’s famous 1996 strike against Scotland.
“I am really glad Everton beat off stiff competition for his signature and I have absolutely no doubt he will be a success – and that the Everton fans will absolutely love him,” Hutchison said.
“Some of the pieces of skill he produced on that night were magical [Tosun set up Anderson Talisca to score Besiktas’ goal in a 1-1 draw against Porto] – he reminded me of Gazza tying Colin Hendry in knots for England against Scotland at Euro ’96.”
Tosun has been viewed as Romelu Lukaku’s successor after Everton failed to bring in a high-profile striker to replace the loss of the Belgian in the summer, as he moved to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
The Toffees newest and only January recruit will go up against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening if given the nod by Sam Allardyce, as the two sides do battle at Wembley.
