Don Hutchison has claimed that he is ‘surprised’ Antonio Conte isn’t trying to sign Christian Eriksen for Tottenham, as he told the Weekend Preview on PL Productions (17/01/22 at 12:55 pm).

The former midfielder thinks Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, ‘would like’ the idea of Eriksen returning.

There are rumours that Eriksen could return to the Premier League, with Brentford leading the chase for his signature, according to the Guardian.

Given Eriksen’s health scare at Euro 2020, where he suffered a cardiac arrest, he hasn’t played since and he is currently a free agent.

The 29-year-old’s contract at Inter was terminated because Italian law doesn’t allow anyone, with an implanted defibrillator device, to play contact sport.

But that’s not the case in England, as Hutchison thinks, given those rumours with Brentford, that Spurs should push for him.

“Amazing (if he returns to PL),” said Hutchison. “I am surprised his former Inter manager, Antonio Conte, hasn’t had a sniff.

“He fits the bill. He is class. He doesn’t cost them a penny. Daniel Levy would like that. He is still a fantastic player and it’s a brilliant story. We wish him all the best.”

At the end of the day, Spurs are crying out for a creative midfielder and they haven’t had one of high-quality since, well, Eriksen himself.

Not only that, there is no fee attached to his possible signing, which would make Levy relax a little more.

Then there is the fact that Eriksen played his best football in Tottenham colours and the fans would welcome him back with open arms.

Not forgetting, after leaving north London, he won the Serie A title at Inter with none other than, Antonio Conte himself.
