Well, Liverpool supporters won’t be seeing Luis Diaz at the World Cup.

Diaz has been a revelation since joining Liverpool in a £49 million move from Porto in January.

But the Reds’ fanbase will not be seeing him in Qatar later this year.

Colombia’s failure to qualify was confirmed on Wednesday and here’s how the player reacted last night.

When translated, his tweet reads: “Since I was little I dreamed of wearing this shirt and wearing it with pride in a World Cup. It hurts too much not to have achieved it.

“I keep wanting to fight for this dream, on my part you will have my commitment and know that I will leave everything to achieve that goal. We will have revenge.”

Double trouble

Diaz is clearly devastated by his country’s failure to reach Qatar.

And someone who will empathise with him is Liverpool teammate and Egypt international Mohamed Salah.

Despite being one of the sport’s finest players, the 29-year-old will also not play at the World Cup later this year and given his age, football might not see Salah on this stage ever again.

It’s also disappointing for Liverpool supporters.

One of the attractions of international competitions is seeing how players of your club fare on the biggest stage of them all.

And unfortunately for the Reds, two bonafide stars for them won’t be present at the tournament.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit are still in the running to win all four competitions this season, having already clinched the Carabao Cup.

And the German manager will see to it that Diaz and Salah leave their international heartbreak at the terminal before flying back to Liverpool to focus on club football.
