Joleon Lescott has put loyalties to one side and predicted a ‘comfortable’ win for Aston Villa against Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.

Villa Park plays host as Wolves visit Unai Emery’s side.

Aston Villa go into the contest on the back of an excellent 2-0 victory away to stuttering Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester City powerhouse began his professional career with the Molineux outfit, however.

But Lescott’s head has ruled his heart, predicting a 2-0 victory for Aston Villa.

He told LiveScore: “I think Wolves are playing a bit better than results suggest but they do need to start getting points on the board. Unai Emery has made a real impact at Aston Villa and suddenly they look like they can compete tactically and physically with most sides in the division. It hurts me to say it but I see Villa winning this quite comfortably.”

The probelm with Aston Villa is that there’s a risk of inconsistency, much like there was during Steven Gerrard’s reign.

Under Emery, Arsenal were a touch hot and cold during the Spaniard’s 18-month spell at the Emirates Stadium.

And this Villa outfit has the same sort of feel to it.

For the most part, they have been absolutely excellent since Emery took over from Gerrard.

But in games where they’re expected to win – like this probably – it remains to be seen if Aston Villa can live up to the favourites tag.
