Jermaine Beckford has said that he told Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo that he would score against Southampton, as he did during Javi Gracia’s first game in charge in a 1-0 victory.

The £12.8 million (Sky Sports) man put the ball in the back of the net in what was a decisive goal to kickstart the Gracia era at Elland Road, a manager he himself felt was perfect suited to the club.

Now, Jermaine Beckford has made an interesting revelation about telling Junior Firpo that he would score a goal against Southampton for Leeds a day before the contest itself.

Jermaine Beckford on what he told Junior Firpo before Leeds vs Southampton

While the ex-Barcelona defender has been slammed for his underwhelming displays since joining the Whites, his goal could prove to be crucial in their race to survive relegation at the end of the season.

As Leeds United took the lead against Southampton, Jermaine Beckford revealed what he told Junior Firpo on BBC Sport, saying, “Absolutely humongous goal for Leeds. Leeds have dominated this game and should have been more clinical. I told Junior Firpo he’d score when I was there yesterday!”

Firpo could become a cult hero

Make no mistake about it, the attacking full-back could well become a cult hero at the club, as that goal could be the difference maker between their chances of survival and relegation.

While Gavin Bazunu should have saved the tame effort, Junior Firpo will not care as Leeds United beat Southampton, while ex-Whites man Jermaine Beckford will be delighted that what he manifested while speaking to the player came to fruition.

As Javi Gracia said, those within the dressing room must stick together and continue to train hard, as they have enough quality to ensure that they do not go down.
