Humble pie for Manchester United CL winner after Olympiakos defeat

Mikael Silvestre has come up with a novel way of getting over the defeat to Olympiakos – after he told Roy Carroll it would simply not happen.

The fallout from last night’s Manchester United performance continues this morning – as many still cannot quite believe the club’s whimpering performance inside the magnificent Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus.

Goals from Alejandro Dominguez and Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell proved the match-winners as United, whose fans celebrated the Greek draw almost like a free pass to the latter stages, were left egg-faced.

And a number of former players have had something to say about it.

Peter Schmeichel showed his devastation on Twitter, while Roy Keane did his as pundit on ITV – labelling Michael Carrick’s post-match interview as ‘as flat as his performance’.

Mikael Silvestre did it on Twitter.

The Frenchman spent nine years in Manchester – winning five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup. He even picked up a Champions League winners medal in his final season at the club back in 2007-08.

He had shot down a former United team-mate earlier in the week.. Roy Carroll, spent four years at Old Trafford but is now a fan-favourite at the Greek side – and he said that the Greek champions could get at a ‘nervous’ United in the game – something dismissed by Silvestre…

But Silvestre was unfortunately, and unexpectedly, forced to enjoy some humble pie as Olympiakos did the unthinkable – and left United on the brink of elimination.

Something which caused this reaction from Silvestre…

The defender now owns a rum company in the Caribbean – and we imagine he enjoyed the fruits of his own labour after watching this Greek tragedy.
