Is Abel Hernandez on the move? Hull City fans will be hoping this isn’t the case, despite the striker’s omission from the squad travelling south to face Exeter City tonight in the EFL Cup, as per the Hull Daily Mail.

Hernandez has been linked by the Hull based paper among others with a move to Aston Villa in recent days, with speculation fueled further by new Villa owner Dr Tony Xia tweeting that the club were pursuing a ‘world class’ number 9.

As an international striker with a history of playing at the highest level – that regarding his time in Serie A with Palermo – you could just about make the link between Xia’s comments and Hernandez.

Nevertheless, such speculation has done enough to prompt the Tigers hierarchy to offer their star striker a bumper new contract, as Villa are not the only club thought to be in the running to pick up Hull’s top scorer from last season, with West Brom also thought to be monitoring his situation closely, as per the Mirror

And with Hernandez’s absence from tonight’s squad to face League Two side Exeter, the spinning rumour wheel may just crank up a notch.

The official line from Hull, as detailed by the Hull Daily Mail, is that the Tigers are ‘protecting a hernia injury’, which will not entirely alleviate the worst fears of the club’s supporters.

With a squad that currently boasts just 13 senior players who are available for selection, it appears rather odd for caretaker manager Mike Phelan to completely omit Hernandez from the squad altogether.
