Hull City’s defensive numbers are dwindling after Curtis Davies completed a move to Championship rivals Derby County.

That transfer would leave veteran Michael Dawson as Hull’s only recognised senior centre-back ahead of a crucial campaign in which they will look to bounce back and achieve promotion at the first time of asking.
Now, as the Tigers hunt reinforcements, a swoop for Newcastle United’s Grant Hanley could suit their plans.
The Scotland international had been chased by Derby prior to their move for Davies – according to the Derby Telegraph – having fallen down the pecking order as Newcastle won the second tier last term.

Although Hanley made just 10 league appearances for the Magpies, his experience was useful at St James’ Park and he had previously captained Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
A towering presence at the back and surprisingly quick across the ground, the 25-year-old would be a suitable replacement for either Davies or Maguire at Hull.
