Hull missed out on a move for Danish defender Mathias Jorgensen in last month’s transfer window, according to bt.dk.

The Premier League strugglers made a bid for the FC Copenhagen defender two days before the close of the transfer window which was rejected by the Danish club.

The bid by Hull in the region of £4.5million was a club record offer for FC Copehagen, but they turned down Hull’s overtures as they wanted to keep Jorgensen at the club.

Hull boss Marco Silva had identified Jorgensen as someone who could bolster Hull’s defensive options and aid their fight for survival in the Premier League.

Jorgensen, who is in his second spell at FC Copenhagen, is highly-regarded at the club with the 26-year-old establishing himself as a key member of the side since returning to the club from PSV Eindhoven in 2014.

The powerful centre-back boasts a wealth of experience of playing in the Champions League and he impressed against Leicester City in this season’s group stages.

Jorgensen admits he has no problems with FC Copenhagen rejecting the offer from Hull and denying him the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

“I am aware that I have a contract with FC Copenhagen, which of course I get paid very, very well for and I so I cannot be upset that they did not accept the offer,” Jorgensen told Danish newspaper bt.dk.

“Although it was good it did not fit into the club’s plans. It must be respected.”

Jorgensen has admitted he is not surprised clubs are looking at him as he is playing at a high level in the Champions League with FC Copenhagen.

“When you’ve been playing in the Champions League and made a good impression it’s obvious that that clubs will look at you,” he added.

“This does not mean necessarily you will go to a Premier League club or something like that, but obviously there is some interest.”

Denmark international Jorgensen signed a new deal last September to keep him at FC Copenhagen until the summer of 2018 and it remains to be seen if Hull will renew their interest in the centre-back when the transfer window opens this summer.
