Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer appears to be heading out on loan again.

Just a year ago, he was making appearances for the first team, including a notable showing in the Europa League against Rangers, where he was chosen over Casemiro.

Both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim gave him opportunities, but Collyer eventually found himself lower down the order.

This season began with a loan move to West Bromwich Albion, but his time there was cut short by injury. United recalled him at the end of December as a result.

Back on 21 January, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic said: “I think we will complete the deal for Toby this week.”

Even with the transfer window closing soon, Jakirovic remains confident that Collyer will end up at Hull.

He went on to explain that he’d wanted Collyer over the summer, though the midfielder had initially picked West Brom instead. Now that Collyer’s interest has shifted towards Hull, Jakirovic is pleased to see things align.

“It’s always a gamble, every player can get injured but I’m optimistic and positive and I wanted Toby in the summer but he chose West Brom as he saw City had an embargo and a salary cap so you are trying to find a calm place to play.

Hull City currently sit fourth in the Championship, firmly holding one of the playoff positions. There’s still some uncertainty around how quickly he’ll be able to make an impact due to his ongoing recovery from a calf issue.

The move could be confirmed at any point before Monday’s 7 pm deadline. Everything seems to be moving in the right direction for this loan move.
