Hull’s Premier League reality check continued with another tough afternoon on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
The Tigers made it to half-time with the score at 0-0, but Willian eventually gave Chelsea the lead in the 61st minute and Diego Costa then doubled Chelsea’s lead six minutes later, continuing his fantastic start to the season.
Mike Phelan’s men had had their own impressive start to the season, winning their first two games including a victory against champions Leicester, but the wheels have begun to fall off and they have now lost three games on the spin.
They have played some of the Premier League’s top teams, losing to Liverpool and Arsenal as well as the defeat to Chelsea today, but the manner of the defeats are what are most worrying to the Hull supporters, who have seen their side drop to 15th position and just three points above the relegation zone.
Many thought Hull would be in a relegation battle this season, but they defied the odds early on and it looked like their spirit could be enough for them this campaign.
However, that spirit appears to be dwindling in recent weeks as the harsh reality of top-flight life has hit home for players and fans alike.
